Thundercat At the Bowl

Thundercat will be playing Brooklyn Bowl in Las Vegas on July 25th and we should all be very excited and impulsively buy tickets!!

Thundercat is a force to be reckoned with in the realm of music, his career being chock full of successful albums, first-rate features, iconic collaborations, and domination over the progressive R&B, funk, and psychedelic jazz styles of the bass guitar. The waves he has made in the music industry are immense and he has had a momentous role in bringing an instrumental and vocal style that was, for a time, considered niche to the forefront of Hip Hop and R&B. He has won 2 Grammys, one in 2016 for his contribution to “These Walls” off of Kendrick Lamar’s 2015 album, To Pimp a Butterfly, in which he was also included in its nomination for Album of the Year. His most recent album release It Is What It Is (2020) won a Grammy for Best Progressive R&B Album in 2021.

His latest release, as of July 2022, is a Thundercatified reimagining of “Fly Like An Eagle” by Steve Miller for the box office smash hit Minions: The Rise of Gru. Blending funk and psychedelia, he transforms this classic song into his style, his smooth voice naturally suiting the melody and background vocals. He includes a bass solo full of stupidly impressive riffs and lines, demonstrating his dexterity and musicianship, that only Thundercat himself could incorporate into a song like this. You can listen to the single here.

It would be an absolute treat to hear his take of “Fly Like an Eagle” live, and just maybe the Brooklyn Bowl audience will be lucky enough to experience it with their own ears! But even if it doesn’t end up in the set- there are so many beloved Thundercat songs to be excited about hearing and I can promise that not one of them will be boring. “Dragonball Durag” and “Them Changes” both became viral hits and are just a couple of his most iconic and popular releases to date that fans will most likely hear on July 25th. From first-hand experience, I can tell you, as a performer, he is high-energy and the atmosphere surrounding him follows suit. You have to put trust in your ears while listening to him play bass because you can’t believe half of the things you’re hearing; by the time you process, he’s already playing his next unimaginable riff. I’m anticipating this concert to be an awakening experience for newer fans of Thundercat and a memorable journey for everyone in attendance who loves music.
