Big World | Happy Diving

‘Space Ooze’ from Happy Diving’s Big World LP has been in my saved songs for a bit, and somehow, on my ride back home from work one day, the entire album began to play, and honestly, I am so glad it did. At 27 minutes and 12 seconds, this 10 “sludgy pop” song LP was the perfect length for my commute home.

Big World is Happy Diving’s first full-length album. Released in 2014, the band recorded it over “two days at The Atomic Garden in East Palo Alto, CA, with the help of producer Jack Shirley (Deafheaven, Joyce Manor, Whirr).

As you might’ve guessed, I like ‘Space Ooze,’ but ‘Always Noon’ and ‘Small World’ are up there on my favorites from the album, too. Each song can stand alone, but listening to the album from beginning to end is the best way to go. The transitions from track to track are so smooth it seems like you’re just listening to a multi-layer song.
